Geographical Information System

The GIS Unit has developed a complete Geographical Information System, as a result of the need to monitor geographically the EO project during all its phases (design, tendering, construction, operation and maintenance).

The main information recorded in the system concerns the geometry of the axis, technical features, bridges, tunnels, geology, drillings, financing, projects registries, archaeological excavations, road-side facilities etc.

The geographical data of all the projects of “EGNATIA ODOS S.A.” are presented through printed and electronic maps in various scales.

The main maps produced are about:

• Monthly progress of the projects
• Structures
• Road-side facilities
• Environment
• Geology
• Archaeology

There are three basic applications, the Operational, the Geological and the Technical GIS, which cover different fields of information regarding the needs for the monitoring of the project. There is also a WebGIS application in progress, which will allow the use of the GIS system by distance, through Internet & Intranet.

In 2004, the GIS system of “EGNATIA ODOS S.A.” won the ESRI prize, as the best system worldwide, a prize awarded every year to companies or organizations which develop dynamic operational GIS systems and provide services to the public or private sector.

The staff of the GIS Unit has acquired considerable experience in the development, operation and maintenance of the GIS system of “EGNATIA ODOS S.A.” and is capable of responding immediately to the realization of systems regarding new projects
