The section of Egnatia Motorway that runs through Central Macedonia is 191 km long and extends from Polimylos to Strimonas. The total of the project in Central Macedonia Region has been completed.
The motorway has been constructed as a dual carriageway, separated by a central reserve, with two traffic lanes and a hard shoulder per direction. Its total width is 24.5 m., (or 22,0 m at certain adverse mountainous sections). The section Kleidi-Thessaloniki-Derveni, 45 km long, consists of 3 traffic lanes and a hard shoulder per carriageway.
25 km (common section with PATHE) out of 190 km of the Egnatia Motorway in Central Macedonia, had been constructed in the past by the Hellenic Ministry for the Environmental and Physical Planning and Public Works.
The total cost for the completion of the section Polimylos-Strimonas amounts to € 1.298 M (exclusive of VAT). Funding has been secured by the CSF III Operational Program “Road Axes” and by the Cohesion Fund. The national contribution has been covered by the European Investment Bank (EIB) loans.
