The section of Egnatia Motorway that runs through Western Macedonia is 110 km long and extends from Panagia (Brown Bear Area) to Polymylos.
The motorway has been constructed as a dual carriageway separated by a central reserve, with two traffic lanes and a hard shoulder per direction. Its total width is 24.5 m. (or 22,0 m at certain adverse mountainous sections). The total cost for the completion of 110 km from Panagia I/C to Polymylos I/C amounts to € 933 M (exclusive of VAT). The project is being funded both by national and community funds and particularly by the CSF II Operational Program “Accesses and Road Axes” and by the CSF III Operational Program “Road Axes, Ports, Urban Development”.
In 30/5/2009 the remaining 31 km from Panagia I/C to Venetikos I/C on the section Panagia-Grevena were opened to traffic.
