On 11th April 2017, Wednesday, at the headquarters of “Egnatia Odos SA”, a kick-off meeting was held for the project: “Aiming at Improving Cross Border Accessibility (CrossBo)” within the context of INTERREG V-A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020. The project, budgeted at €38.8mn, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) by 85% and by national funds from Greece and Bulgaria by 15%. The Greek company “EGNATIA ODOS SA” is the Lead Partner undertaking the whole coordination of the project, while the partners on the Bulgarian side are the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) and the Region of Smolyan.
The project is of a strategic importance and aims at improving accessibility in the Greek-Bulgarian border area through the construction of the road axis Xanthi-Smolyan, which forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network, and of the new border station Dimario/Rudozem. “EGNATIA ODOS SA” participates with the “Construction of the new road Dimario – Greek-Bulgarian borders” on the Egnatia Motorway vertical axis “Xanthi – Echinos / Greek-Bulgarian borders”, both budgeted at €21.2mn. The Road Infrastructure Agency participates with two (2) projects for the upgrading of road sections along the axes II-86 (Srednogortci – Rudozem) & ΙΙ-59 (Momchilgrad – Ivaylovgrad), as well as with the construction of Rudozem Ring Road, budgeted at €16mn. The Region of Smolyan participates with the construction of a new border station at Dimario /Rudozem, budgeted at €1.6mn.
The project funding on the Greek side is secured, apart from INTERREG Program, through the Sectoral OP Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development and the Regional OP Eastern Macedonia & Thrace, budgeted at €14.6mn and €5.4mn respectively.
The meeting, apart from the project partners, was also attended by representatives of the Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the Cooperation Program GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020.
